M.I.A.-Bad-Girls-video-premieres Email this story Printable version

Today M.I.A.'s video for her brand new track, "Bad Girls," premieres exclusively on YouTube.

The video was shot in Ouarzazate, Morocco, and is directed by Romain Gavras (M.I.A. 'Born Free' and JUSTICE 'Stress')
"It was dope to have so many people from so many different backgrounds speaking so many different languages come together to create something that we believed in,' says M.I.A about the video.

'I thought I was gonna die on the shoot when I saw the drifting. It was a four day shoot so everyone was on edge the whole time specifically ME when I had to do bluesteel singing to the camera while the cars did doughnuts on the wet road ten feet away. In my mind I was thinking how I was gonna deliver the video to Vice with no legs.'

Dan Mangan new video and dates

Advertisements

added: 20 Jan 2012 // by: newsdesk

Dan-Mangan-new-video-and-dates Email this story Printable version

After rounding off 2011 with a stellar performance at End of the Road's Christmas Shindig at Cargo in London, Dan Mangan will be returning to the UK in April for an 8-date tour, kicking off in Brighton on April 27th. The full list of tour dates can be found below. Mangan will also be releasing new single 'Rows of Houses' taken from his critically-acclaimed album 'Oh Fortune' on March 19th.

Inspired by the film 'Stand By Me', 'Rows of Houses' will be released on March 19th through City Slang. Stirring, deep and dabbling with themes of mortality, the track is one of the Polaris Music Prize-nominated Canadian's darker efforts and its accompanying video reflects these ideas, many of which appear throughout 'Oh Fortune'.

Having performed at numerous festivals from Glastonbury to End of the Road, played for Wills & Kate by request of the Canadian Government and joined the likes of The Walkmen, The Decemberists and Okkervil River on tour; Dan Mangan has proven himself to be a must-see performer with an incredible voice.

Dan Mangan will be playing the following UK dates:

APRIL
27th: BRIGHTON, The Hope
28th: MANCHESTER, Castle
29th: GLASGOW, Stereo

MAY
1st: NEWCASTLE, Cluny 2
2nd: BRISTOL, Louisiana
3rd: LONDON, Bush Hall
4th: OXFORD, Jericho Tavern
5th: LEEDS, Holy Trinity Church

Gotye video one of most viewed

Gotye-video-one-of-most-viewed Email this story Printable version

The Walk Off The Earth cover of Gotye and Kimbra's 'Somebody That I Used To Know' was one of YouTube's most watched videos in the past week with over 19 million views. 19,827,754 to be exact.

The video featuring five people playing one guitar at the same time was only posted a week ago and has generated millions of views for every day it was up.

The original song by Gotye and Kimbra was the biggest selling single of 2011 in Australia. Gotye's 'Making Mirrors' album was the biggest selling Australian album of last year.

Walk Off The Earth are from Canada. They recruited Canadian singer Sarah Blackwood for the Kimbra part, uploaded to YouTube and drew in the views every single day.

Both Gotye and Kimbra tweeted their approval of the song but it also drew the attention of actor Russell Crowe who moonlights as a singer. Crowe offered his catalogue to Walk Off The Earth to play with and that may also lead to a collaboration.

Nada Surf behind the scenes video released

Advertisements

added: 13 Jan 2012 // by: newsdesk

Nada-Surf-behind-the-scenes-video-released Email this story Printable version

Ahead of the release of NADA SURF's first album of new material in four years, they have uploaded a new behind the scenes video which sees them playing acoustic, cooking and chatting about life as a member of the band.

'The Stars Are Indifferent To Astronomy', released on 23 January 2012, is NADA SURF's sixth studio album, and third for City Slang, following the successful and critically lauded 'The Weight is a Gift' (2005), 'Lucky' (2007) and their self-released covers record 'If I Had a Hifi' (2010) that was intended to be only available at shows but forced into normal retail by popular demand.

It is also accompanied by live shows in London and Glasgow early next month. See below for details.

NADA SURF's line-up for 15 years has been and still is Matthew Caws (vocals, guitar), Daniel Lorca (bass) and Ira Elliot (drums), though this time, they invited guitarist Doug Gillard (Guided by Voices) to join in the recording process as well as a certain increasingly prolific Martin Wenk of Calexico fame. Chris Shaw (Wilco, Brendan Benson and Super Furry Animals) was brought in to produce and record, having worked with the band before when he mixed their 2005 smash, 'Always Love.'

'We've always played faster and a little harder live," Caws says, "but we'd play so carefully in the studio. So with this album, we made a conscious decision to preserve what it felt like in the practice room, when you play with that new-song energy. Just embrace it and not worry whether we're overdoing it, kind of get all the thinking out of the way."

Nada Surf will be in London and available for interview this coming Monday January 16th.

They also play the following live shows:

07. Feb UK Glasgow - King Tuts
08. Feb UK London - Koko
