Digital Music News has reported that all Paul McCartney and Wings albums that are under the Concord Music Group umbrella have been pulled from Spotify, Rhapsody, MOG, Rdio and other streaming services. It also appears that McCartney music from sources other than Concord are also being removed.

The Angry Genes? Yes, that could be one direction that the creators of the Angry Birds game could go as they talk with the members of KISS about bringing out a band-based version of the game. Gene Simmons told the magazine Industry Games that the group is looking to break into the video game market in a big way but not by creating one from scratch, but by attaching the KISS brand to existing hits.
So while the gaming world is waiting for the KISS games that are going to explode, we're busy taking the brand to places where no band has gone before. So Hello Kitty is one of the biggest brands on planet Earth. Now there's KISS Hello Kitty, which we've already launched in 90 countries. We're talking with Angry Birds, KISS and Angry Birds, which will become a deal. The KISS and the Archie world have now teamed up and the first issues of KISS Archie comic books hits the world this month. KISS golf courses are starting in Las Vegas right across from the Hard Rock. That opens in January. It's just endless what we can do, but we only do things when it's right. Just because there are games, and just because there's this or that out there, unless the deal is right and unless the content is exciting to our fans, we don't do it.

Coroners ruled on Tuesday that Don Cornelius' death was, indeed, a suicide. Toxicology tests, which could take a week or two, are needed before a final report can be issued.

The Grammys will present a salute to Etta James at this Sunday's awards ceremony. Alicia Keys and Bonnie Raitt will sing.

Fans appear to be getting on the Bill Ward bandwagon after an internet rumor circulated that he was being replaced in the Black Sabbath reunion by Tommy Clufetos who previously played with Ozzy Osbourned.
A Facebook group, 1,000,000 Black Sabbath Fans Say Yes to Bill Ward, has been formed and they have reported that the people who run Black Sabbath's Facebook page have turned off all comments.

Here's a concert lineup for you, if you want to take a cruise around the Caribbean. The Malt Shop Memories cruise will depart from Ft. Lauderdale, FL on October 27 for Turks & Caicos, San Juan, St. Thomas and the private island of Half Moon Cay. On stage during the seven day trip will be Dion, Frankie Avalon, Bobby Rydell, Ronnie Spector, Darlene Love, The Original Drifters, The Duprees, Sonny Turner (former lead singer of the Platters), Carl Gardner's Coasters, Kenny Vance and the Planotones, The Chiffons, The Tymes, The Marvelettes and more.

Quick quips: Merle Haggard, America, Glen Campbell, Peter Hook, Academy of Country Music, Miles Davis

Merle Haggard is once again out of the hospital and has traveled from Macon, GA to his home in Redding, CA to recuperate. Haggard had been hospitalized twice in the last week in Macon for treatment of pneumonia and a number of other ailments.
Merle will recuperate for a number of weeks before going back on the road in late-February.

America will receive the 2,459th star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame on February 6. Gary Beckley and Dewey Bunnell will be honored in front of the Musician's Institute surrounded by the likes of Motley Crue, Ozzy Osbourne, Rush, Al Jolson and Hal David.

The great Glen Campbell will perform on this year's Grammy broadcast with Blake Shelton and the Band Perry. Glen is a Lifetime Achievement Award Recipient and is currently out on the road with his Goodbye Tour. He recently revealed that he is in the early stages of Alzheimers.
Sergio Mendes, who is up for an Academy Award for best song for Real in Rio from the animated film Rio, says that there will most likely be a sequel to the film. He said on Tuesday "I think the plan is for the movie to come three or four months before the World Cup. Fox has been talking about (it) and it looks like it's going to happen. We're going to have a meeting I think next week and Carlos [Saldanha, the director] is coming to town to tell us the story, and it looks like it's a go."

Peter Hook, formerly of Joy Division, doesn't seem too upset with the whole Disney/Unknown Pleasures T-Shirt controversy. He told Billboard, "It's a funny one. I suppose you would have to say it's a compliment coming from an organization like Disney. When you consider that Joy Division were only together for three years, it's certainly a fantastic compliment 34 years later to still be able to make a splash like this is. The fact that it's sold out is an even greater compliment. I tried to get one but it seems that they're all gone."

CBS, the Academy of Country Music and Dick Clark Productions have announced that they have agreed to a ten year deal that will keep the awards on CBS through 2021. CBS has carried the annual affair since 1998.

Finally, here is the official designs for the Edith Piaf and Miles Davis commemorative stamps we reported earlier this week.

Disney has pulled the T-Shirts that they released in their stores and on their website on Monday with a variation on Joy Division's album Unknown Pleasures. The shirt depicted Mickey's head with the waves produced by a pulsar from space.
A Disney spokesman said "As soon as we became aware there could be an issue, we pulled it from our shelves and our online store to review the situation further."

Randy Bachman and Fred Turner (aka Bachman-Turner) will appear in the upcoming Will Farrell/Zach Galifianakis film Dog Fight. The pair play themselves at a political celebration playing their classic Takin' Care of Business.
The U.S. Postal Service is issuing a commemorative stamp for jazz great and Rock and Roll Hall of Fame member Miles Davis. The stamp will be part of a joint release with the French Postal Service whose stamp will feature Edith Piaf.

Lee Barham, chairman of the steering committee for the Miles Davis Jazz Celebration, said "Miles Davis was one of the greatest jazz musicians and trumpet players in the world. Before Michael Jackson and Elvis Presley, there was Miles Davis."

Alice Cooper makes a guest appearance on his son's band's new EP. Dash Cooper is part of the group Runaway Phoenix and their new EP has Dad playing on the opening track Tug of War.

Quick quips: Black Sabbath, Neil Young, Merle Haggard, Jim Reeves, Steven Tyler, Winston Riley

It seems that a cancer diagnosis is not keeping Tony Iommi from working on music for the Black Sabbath reunion. Bandmate Geezer Butler wrote on his website:

Today [January 19] we got the engines back up and running @ Tony's home studio. Far from being down and depressed about his lymphoma diagnosis, Tony had already written the music for two new songs, and I must say it has given us all a kick up the rump- it's great to hear him churning out those riffs again, assuaging the Demon C. Takes more than that to stop Tony. Can't wait for you all to hear our workings, it has been great working on this stuff.

Neil Young's LinkVolt LLC is being sued for $500,000 by Unigard Insurance over damages from a 2010 warehouse fire in San Carlos, CA. Unigard paid out to the owners of the building but allege that the fire was caused by Young's 1959 Lincoln Continental that he had converted to run on electricity and a bio-diesel powered generator.

Merle Haggard was released from the hospital on Friday after being treated for pneumonia. Doctors expect him to make a full recovery.
Haggard has postponed his remaining concert dates for January while he fully recovers.

A trial opens on Monday that will determine how the royalties for the late Jim Reeves' recordings will be split. Even though Reeves passed away almost fifty years ago, his work still generates $400,000 per year and Terry Davis, who married the singers widow, feels that he should receive part of them. Davis was married to Mary Reeves for thirty years until her death in 1999.
For the second year in a row, CMT will present a special edition of their long running Crossroads series during the festivities for the Super Bowl. Last year it was Faith Hill and the Pretenders and, this year, on February 4, it will be Steven Tyler and Carrie Underwood.
The two previously performed together at last year's ACM Awards.

Jamaican reggae pioneer Winston Riley passed away on Thursday from gunshot wounds to the head he received in November. He was 65.
Riley had been the target of a number of unexplained attacks in 2011, including being shot in August and stabbed in September.

Riley was a founder of the Techniques while still a teenager and was still adapting and having hits into the 80's. He was also credited with introducing reggae to England.

Quick quips: Sinead O'Connor, Ringo Starr, Gary Glitter, Duff McKagan, Henry Davis, Kenny G

Sinead O'Connor has checked into a hospital for treatment of her depression. The singer recently said she attempted suicide and called for help through her Twitter account. She is also divorcing her husband of four months, blaming it on the excessive scrutiny of the press.
O'Connor said she should be in the facility for two weeks. "Good team. They will put me back together quick."

Ringo Starr will be interviewed live on Sirius XM Radio January 30 to talk about his new album Ringo 2012, out the next day. Producer Don Was will moderate the discussion and Russell Brand will act as the interviewer. It is expected that Starr will also perform.

A Twitter account professing to belong to Gary Glitter has said that an announcement is imminent of a book, remastered albums and a comeback world tour.
Whether any of this comes to pass is unknown as Glitter has been mired in numerous child pornography and child sexual abuse charges both in the U.K. and in Viet Nam and is currently on the sex offenders list which would make traveling outside the U.K. and into many countries difficult or impossible.

Duff McKagan of Guns N' Roses and Velvet Revolver has come out in favor of the SOPA and PIPA bills in congress to control on-line piracy. In his column in Seattle Weekly, he said:
Bad for business. Anti-piracy legislation could be bad for the Internet business. It almost takes my breath away. Internet piracy has claimed half of the recorded music business, and made the prospect of making a living as a musician harder for artists of all rank and file. Why didn't Google, or Facebook, or Wikipedia ever stand in solidarity with musicians, actors, and writers - most of whom have never known fame and fortune - as their works were stolen with no recourse on their sites?

Soul Tracks is reporting that bassist Henry Davis has passed away. He had his greatest success as part of the group L.T.D. but was also a member of Friends of Distinction and played on albums by numerous artists including Lionel Richie and Morris Day and the Time. Possibly his most famous bass part was on Diana Ross' Love Hangover.

Lyndie Benson-Gorelick, the wife of Kenny G, has filed for separation after twenty years of marriage. According to TMZ, the cause is "irreconcilable differences" and both parties have hired high-power lawyers.

The Dubliners and Don McLean will receive the Lifetime Achievement Awards at BBC Radio 2's Folk Awards next month. McLean will be on the road this year with his 40th Anniversary of American Pie tour wile the Dubliners will be out celebrating their 50th anniversary.

Quick quips: Grateful Dead, Sammy Hagar, Chickenfoot, Paul Weller, Lyle Lovett, Robert Earl Keen, Townes Van Zandt, Aerosmith, George Harrison

Grateful Dead drummer Bill Kreutzmann has told Rolling Stone that he doesn't think there was much time left for the dead whether Jerry Garcia survived or not.
I think that Jerry had gotten kind of bored with the Grateful Dead, and it was sort of like a marriage that had maybe gone on too long. And other people in the band wanted to start to express themselves in their bands and so forth and so on, that I'm pretty sure Jerry would've stopped playing in the Grateful Dead. I think a lot of it, I hate to say, was really a financial obligation. He needed to earn the money for some things and that's too bad. But it's hard. He was a true artist and I can tell you he wasn't really happy playing in the Grateful Dead at the end. I hate to say that. I know the audience is going to hear me say that and go, "Oh, that's not true," but if people really think about some of the shows that were there in the last year and some of the troubles that poor Jerry had, they know that I'm not BS'ing.

Sammy Hagar has told Get Your Rock Out that, when he plays with Chickenfoot, you'll never hear Van Halen or any of his solo songs. "We really do not want to dilute this band and become a Van Halen cover band, or become a Sammy Hagar cover band or a Joe Satriani cover band. The idea is that we are Chickenfoot, and we will stay that. I don't think we will ever play any of our old catalog unless you catch us in Cabo jamming, and then it's more Hendrix and Zeppelin and Montrose and that kind of stuff."

Paul Weller and his wife Hannah are the proud parents of twin sons. Bowie and John Paul were born on Saturday.

The Texas Heritage Songwriters Association has chosen Lyle Lovett, Robert Earl Keen and Townes Van Zandt as the new members of their Hall of Fame. The ceremony will be March 4 at Moody Theater in Austin, TX.
'I'm proud to be a Texan and honored to be inducted into the Hall of Fame,' says Keen. 'And to be included with Lyle, a friend since we were kids, makes it an even greater honor.'
'Getting to stand on that stage and join such a great group of Texas songwriters and musicians is a real privilege,' adds Lovett. 'I'm looking forward to an evening of great entertainment and talent while celebrating our Texas heritage.'
Look for Steven Tyler and Joe Perry to perform this Friday night on the Tonight Show with Jay Leno. Tyler was already on the show with Randy Jackson and Ryan Seacrest to talk about the upcoming season of American Idol. Perry was then added and Jackson, who played with Journey for a bit, will even jump in with a bit of bass work.

Finally, there's a new app for the iPad that allows you to examine George Harrison's guitars throughout his career in detail along to listen to songs on which he used them. Here's a promo clip for the app.

Quick quips: Madonna, Coachella, Bruce Springsteen, Sinead O'Connor, Leonard Cohen, Gerry Rafferty, Charlie Collins

Veteran artists picked up or were the subject of a couple of movie awards over the weekend. Martin Scorsese won the Best Documentary Feature award at the 17th annual Critic's Choice Awards for George Harrison: Living in the Material World."
On Sunday night, Scorsese won again at the Golden Globes for his film Hugo but Madonna was the veteran artist who came out on top of the Original Song category for Masterpiece from her film W.E. (co-written with Julie Frost and Jimmy Harry). In winning, she beat out Elton John and Bernie Taupin, Chris Cornell and Mary J. Blige who were also nominated.

The Coachella Festival expanded to two weekends this year, boasting the same lineup each week, to try and accommodate more people. Even with double the capacity, both weekends sold out in just under three hours.

Bruce Springsteen was in Asbury Park, NJ over the weekend, shooting a video for one of the songs on his upcoming album on Friday. The shoot included an appearance by singer-songwriter Willie Nile who is reportedly also on the album track.
Saturday night, Springsteen appeared at the annual Light of Day charity concert which raises money to fight Parkinson's Disease. A full report on the show and his appearance can be found on Rolling Stone's site.

Sinead O'Connor's marriage is off again, possibly for good, with the singer blaming the media.
Last week, an article was published by a British tabloid questioning whether her new husband should be counseling drug addicted teens while his wife was seeking drugs. The article sent O'Connor into a tailspin and she apparently tried to commit suicide, going to the Twitter community for help.
O'Connor now says she hopes the media will leave her husband alone. "I will never again associate myself romantically with anyone as I could not bear to see these things done again to someone I love. Of course I have my children, family and friends so I am happy enough and will be old self in matter of days. for which I make no apology. Onward and upward."

The New Yorker magazine will break into a new frontier tomorrow (Monday) when, for the first time in their 87 year history, they will stream a song whose lyric they are publishing in their next edition. That song is Going Home from Leonard Cohen's upcoming album, Old Ideas, which will be out on Columbia on January 31.

Paul Muldoon, poetry editor for the magazine, said that they had printed the lyrics of music by Cohen, Bob Dylan and Paul Simon in recent years but they have never accompanied the publishing with an on-line stream of the song.

When Gerry Rafferty passed away last year, he didn't provide for his fiance, Ezina Fuschini, in his will which had been written before they met. Fuschini is now suing his estate under Britain's Inheritance Act of 1975 which allows those who were being supported by the deceased to receive a "reasonable financial provision" from the estate.

Charlie Collins, a guitarist and fiddler who played with Roy Acuff's Smokey Mountain Boys, passed away on Thursday at the age of 78 from a stroke. He was originally with the Pinnacle Mountain Boys and joined Acuff's group in 1966 where he stayed for 25 years. After leaving Acuff, he played with Bashful Brother Oswald and was a regular at the Grand Ole Opry as part of the Square Dance Band.
Word is that Collins played last Saturday night at the Opry and had the stroke on Sunday morning.

Eddie Van Halen has donated 75 electric guitars from his collection to music programs at schools throughout the Los Angeles area. The gift was made in cooperation with the Mr. Holland's Opus Foundation.
Van Halen said in a statement, "Music is the universal language. It has the ability to transcend and convey every human emotion that exists without saying a word. Music kept me off the streets and out of trouble and gave me something that was mine that no one could take away from me.
"Music education and families are dealing with the economic times, and I wanted to help them. If I can help a kid discover a liking, or even a passion for music in their life, then that's a wonderful thing. Music has provided a good life for me and hopefully it can help make life better for others with this donation."

A group called the Rolling Stones Liberation Front have issued six demands prior to the group's announcement of any 50th anniversary tour. They say if all six aren't met, they will wage a non-violent disruptive action. The demands are:
We want smaller venues.
We want lower ticket prices.
We want a set list overhaul.
We want to eliminate the horn section and back-up singers.
We want the expulsion of all opening acts.
We want all fans to take responsibility for themselves.
To read the details behind each of the demands, check out the article at Classic Rock magazine.

The Academy of Country Music has announced that Reba McEntire and Blake Shelton will return for their annual awards show on April 1 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. It is Blake's second year as host and Reba's fourteenth.

The next night, the stars will return to the venue to tape ACM Presents: Lionel Richie and Friends - A Lifetime of Hits. The special will air later in the year on CBS.

k.d. lang has filed papers to dissolve her domestic partnership with Jamie Price. The two first met in 2003 and entered into a partnership contract in 2009.

Dolly Parton's Dixie Stampede in Pigeon Forge, TN has reached a major milestone, it's 25th anniversary year. Parton said of the restaurant "Over the years, some incredibly talented performers, those with two legs and those with four legs, have thoroughly amazed audiences with their talents, and our 25th anniversary season will be no exception!"

Jim Reeves is one of the most successful artists in country music history, racking up hits for years after his death in a 1964 plane crash. Larry Jordan, who knew Reeves and was close friends with his wife, Mary, has written a new book on the singer, Jim Reeves: His Untold Story.

John Parr, who hit in 1985 with the Theme From St. Elmo's Fire (Man in Motion), has recorded a new version of the song for Denver Broncos' quarterback Tim Tebow.

Quick quips: Sinead O'Connor, Madonna, Beach Boys, Harry Connick Jr., Peter Criss

Sinead O'Connor has admitted that she was overdosing when she put out the plea on Twitter Wednesday for medical help. She told the Sun ""I took an overdose. God obviously wants me around, though I can't think why."

Madonna doesn't mince words about Lady Gaga in an interview with Newsweek. She said her reaction upon hearing Gaga's Born This Way and noticing the similarities to her own Express Yourself, "I thought, 'What a wonderful way to redo my song.' I mean, I recognized the chord changes. I thought it was. interesting."
She actually does like the singer, whom she considers much like herself. On this week's Graham Norton Show, she says "When I first saw her, I was really impressed by her and she was cool. She did remind me of me back in the day. I do think she is very talented."

The Beach Boys have a drummer lined up for their 50th Anniversary Tour. They'll bring back old stand-by from their 90's tours, actor John Stamos.

Harry Connick, Jr. starts a four week run next Wednesday as Mariska Hargitay's love interest on Law & Order: SVU. He may want to see if he can stretch that job out a bit longer as his current job on Broadway, starring in the revival of On a Clear Day You Can See Forever, will close on January 29. In total, the show will have played 29 preview and 57 regular performances.

Peter Criss, former drummer for KISS, and Terry Bozzio (Frank Zappa, Missing Persons) will be inducted as Drum Legends by the Guitar Center retail chain. They will be honored on January 14.

Nina Blackwood, Mark Goodman, Alan Hunter and Martha Quinn have signed with Atria Books (Simon & Schuster) for a new book detailing the behind the scenes activities of the original MTV veejays. The fifth of the original crew, J.J. Jackson, died in 2004.

Quick quips: Van Halen, Kool & the Gang, Aerosmith, Metallica, Ronnie James Dio, Gregg Allman, Ted Nugent, 100 Club

Van Halen has made an interesting choice to open some of their shows on the upcoming tour, 70's/80's funkmasters Kool and the Gang. Tickets for most of the stops announced go on sale on Saturday, January 14.

Steven Tyler talked about the upcoming Aerosmith album while being interviewed at the TCA panel for American Idol. "All of it's been written but I've got to lay lyrics on it and I haven't had a lot of time. What I've listened to so far knocked me out. I know a good song and I know what gets played on the radio. I'm not that pretentious to say we've got hits, but we've got something and that's all that matters."
As far as the sound, "It's Aerosmith, how do you hide from my big mouth?"

Kirk Hammett was also talking about Metallica's upcoming album. He told Rolling Stone "If Death Magnetic was a logical successor to .And Justice For All, the next album will be a heavier Black Album. We're not going to the depths of complexity that we did for Death Magnetic. The stuff we're coming up with is more groove-oriented, a heavier version of what we were doing in the early 90s.

A long list of rock and metal greats are getting on board a tribute album for the late Ronnie James Dio. Signed up so far are Rob Halford (Judas Priest), Lemmy Kilmister (Motorhead), Ian Gillan (Deep Purple), Alice Cooper, Glenn Hughes (Deep Purple), Sebastian Bach (Skid Row) and Dave Grohl (Nirvana, Foo Fighters). The album is expected to be out next year.

Two men attending Gregg Allman's show last Wednesday at the Ryman Auditorium in Nashville got into a fight with the result being one sustaining a knife wound to the face and the other being arrested by authorities.
Not that this will be any big surprise, but Pierce Munitions, makers of precision ammunition, will be putting out a new line of hunting bullets under Ted Nugent's name.

The 100 Club in London has failed in its attempt to get historical protection. English Heritage, the organization that make recommendations on landmarks backed the plan, noting it was the oldest active club in London, but the British government rejected the bid.
A government spokesperson told the Sunday Telegram "There's no denying the club's place in British pop music history, but in the end it's only the stage and the signage that mark it out as being any different from any other basement club. I can't help but feel that giving the cradle of punk rock listed building status would not be quite in tune with that movement's driving spirit."
