LL Cool J can't wait to witness 'special moments' at the Grammy Awards.

The 44-year-old hip-hop icon will host this year's awards show.

LL is honoured to have been chosen at the presenter and is eager to take part in the event.

'It's about the great performances and those great moments,' LL told ET Online. 'I think the thing that makes the Grammys amazing are those special moments.'

LL does not want to take over the stage. The star is intent on highlighting the talents of the nominees and performers of the night.

'[I want to] let the performers and artists speak for themselves,' LL said. 'Because the show is not about me, it's about the Grammys and about the artists that are nominated, so I just want to have fun, just have a good time.'

LL is the first Grammy Awards presenter in seven years.

Performers will include current Grammy nominees Taylor Swift, Foo Fighters, Jason Aldean and Kelly Clarkson, Bruno Mars, Nicki Minaj, Rihanna and Coldplay.

The 54th Grammy Awards will air on Sunday February 12.

Rihanna and Coldplay are performing together at the Grammy Awards.

The Barbados-born singer has confirmed she will be taking to the stage with the British rockers at the ceremony, which is being held on February 12.

Rihanna announced the news on Twitter and seemed thrilled about the plan.

'My friends @ColdPlay and I will be sharing the stage for a performance at this years Annual Grammy Awards! #BONKERS (sic),' she wrote.

It's thought Rihanna and Coldplay will perform their duet Princess of China, which is featured on the band's record Mylo Xyloto.

Lead singer of the group Chris Martin has previously spoken of his excitement about working with Rihanna.

'In like a dream scenario, we had a song that I'd secretly kind of written to see if Rihanna would want to sing it. And then the rest of the band wanted to keep it, so we came up with the idea of asking her to sing it with us, and, to our great surprise, she said OK,' he explained.

'Well, her bit on our record is my favourite bit. When the song came out, it sort of asked for her to be on it.'

It's thought the band and singer will also take to the stage at the BRIT Awards later in February.

LL Cool J has been announced as the host of the Grammy Awards, with Kelly Clarkson, Bruno Mars, Nicki Minaj and Taylor Swift all set to perform.

LL Cool J is to host the upcoming Grammy Awards.

The 44-year-old rapper has taken the reins at the annual awards nominations concert yearly since 2008. It's now been announced he will do the same for the actual event, which will take place on Sunday February 12.

'I'm thrilled to be part of Music's Biggest Night,' the hip-hop star said in a statement. 'I will always have fond memories of my first Grammys Awards and to now be hosting the Grammy show, in the company of so many other incredible artists, is a dream come true.'

The Grammys is known for not always having a host. The last time someone did take charge of proceedings was in 2005, when Queen Latifah took to the stage. Ellen DeGeneres, Rosie O'Donnell and Billy Crystal have also taken the role in the past.

The 54th Grammy Awards will feature a host of big name stars on the stage, among them Kelly Clarkson, Bruno Mars, Nicki Minaj and Taylor Swift.

It's thought other well-known singers and bands will also perform.

Adele planning Grammys performance

Grammy producers are reportedly hopeful that Adele will perform at the ceremony next month.

The British star has been nominated for six of the prestigious music awards, including album of the year for her smash hit record 21.

Adele has been keeping a low profile in recent months after undergoing emergency surgery for a haemorrhaged vocal cord in November. She was advised to take a break from singing and forced to cancel several tour dates.

However, it has now been reported that Adele could show off her stunning vocals by opening this year's Grammy Awards.

"Adele will be at the Grammys in Los Angeles on February 12," a source close to the singer told RadarOnline.com. "She's thrilled to be nominated, but it's been a hard time for her because of the surgery. She has begun talking more, with her doctor's permission. Adele's best friend in recent weeks has been warm compresses around her neck to help the healing process of her vocal chords.

'Producers of the Grammys would love to have Adele perform, and open the show, but she isn't able to give them an answer yet. She won't be able to give them an answer until the beginning of February, and they completely understand."

People usually take anywhere between one and three months to recover from the throat operation.

It was recently reported that Adele has been eating less junk food in a bid to boost her all-around health.

She is believed to have lost 25lbs to ensure she looks her best for the Grammy Awards and to 'sex up' her image.
