Iggy Pop has been named ambassador for Record Store Day 2012. The annual event, this year falling on April 21, is used to publicize and drive business to independent record stores who continue the fight against internet sales.
Pop said of his new "position:"

A person should have a personality. You won't get one dicking around on a computer. It helps to go somewhere where there are other persons. Persons who are interested in something you are. That's how a record store or any shop that's got some life to it should work. It's not about selling shit.

I got my name, my musical education and my personality all from working at a record store during my tender years. In the 50s and 60s the teen kids used to gather after school at these places to listen free to the latest singles and see if they liked the beat. You could buy the disc you liked for 79 cents and if you were lucky meet a chick. Clerks in these places became managers, (like Brian Epstein), label heads (Jack Holzman) and Faces on album covers (like me).

Personally I feel best in a store that, while staying small and socially relaxed, still keeps a complete variety of music types and non musical recordings on offer. All of this is cool and has a much bigger future than most people realize today.

As Record Store Day Ambassador for 2012 I feel like a representative from some exotic jungle full of life and death and sex and anger, called upon to wear a leopard skin and translate joy to the world of the dead.

Barbadian singer Rihanna and British superstar Cheryl Cole are reportedly recording a duet this week in Los Angeles.

The Daily Star reports that the superstar duo will enter the studio later this week in L.A. quoting a 'source' as saying 'It's been a long time coming and something both their management teams have been trying to arrange, but with their busy schedules and Rihanna's tour dates, they haven't been able to until now.'

The move will undoubtedly be a huge boost for Cheryl Cole in the USA. She has been an enormous star in her native Britain for a decade ever since her band Girls Aloud won TV talent show Popstars: The Rivals in 2002 but she has struggled for success in North America.

Rihanna, on the other hand, is one of the biggest stars in the world right now. Her sixth album Talk That Talk is out now.

Jay-Z and Beyonce Knowles' newborn baby daughter is already making music history.
Blue Ivy Carter was born on Saturday but thanks to her gurgles and cries heard at the end of her father's new track, Glory, she is already making her mark in the entertainment industry.
The track, which Jay-Z recorded a short time after the bundle of joy was born, is set to appear on Billboard's chart next week at No. 74.
By then Blue Ivy will be less than two weeks old and will make her the youngest ever person to appear on a chart.
Jay-Z's heartfelt tune has emotional lyrics about what his new bundle of joy means to him and listed the track as featuring B.I.C.
'The most amazing feeling I feel, Words can't describe what a feeling, for real, Baby I'll paint the sky blue, My greatest creation was you,' he raps.
Ironically, the song is Jay-Z's 107th entry in the charts which mirrors Blue Ivy's birthday of January 7th ' 1/07.
Stevie Wonder also showcased his baby daughter Aisha's coos on his son Isn't She Lovely but she was not a named person on the track.
