Mock-rockers Tenacious D ' Jack Black and Kyle Gass ' release a teaser animation for their new album.

The acoustic joke-metal duo toured Australia with Foo Fighters late last year and now they prepare for their third album Rize Of The Fenix.

In a bitter teaser for the new album, Black claims that critics wrote them off following their last album/film The Pick Of Destiny but they are ready to 'rize' again.

You can hear the song's intro below on SoundCloud but it works a lot better alongside the little animation at their Rize Of The Fenix page here.

Rumour has it that the album will be released in May.

Quincy Jones talks up Macca album

Quincy-Jones-talks-up-Macca-album Email this story Printable version

On December 19th 2011 Paul announced that February 2012 would see the release of his brand new studio album. Last month it was confirmed that the album was to be titled 'Kisses on the Bottom' - a reference to the album' opener 'I'm Gonna Sit Right Down and Write Myself A Letter'. Now ahead of the release music legend and long-term friend of Paul McCartney, Quincy Jones has spoken about the upcoming album.

Jones comments: "The songs Paul chose for Kisses on the Bottom are songs I've heard and loved since I was a kid. I sat with Paul backstage at the first concert of his recent tour and had the privilege of listening to the entire record. These are some of the best songs ever written, and it takes a very special talent to bring them to light. Paul didn't bring 1/8th notes with him to these songs; he knows how to swing like the old school or Sinatra used to say, "he's in the pocket." There is simply no artist today who has the credibility, grace, and depth of character that Paul has. Our 49-year-relationship goes back to before the Beatles came to America and I love that Paul has taken the time to do this album. I've heard a lot of records covering these songs, but none of them have the authenticity that Paul's has."

'Kisses On The Bottom' is a collection of standards Paul grew up listening to in his childhood as well as the two new McCartney compositions 'My Valentine' and 'Only Our Hearts'. With the help of Grammy Award-winning producer Tommy LiPuma and Diana Krall and her band-as well as guest appearances from Eric Clapton and Stevie Wonder, McCartney's new album is a deeply personal journey through classic American compositions that, in some cases, a young Paul first heard his father perform on piano at home.

Paul had some fun with his choice of album title - while causing some confusion amongst those who have historically subjected his every move to microscopic scrutiny (with many fixating on an anatomical interpretation!) - the phrase 'Kisses On The Bottom' actually comes from the album's opener 'I'm Gonna Sit Right Down And Write Myself A Letter'. Originally made a big hit by Fats Waller in 1935, the song opens with the lines "I'm gonna sit right down and write myself a letter and make believe it came from you. I'm gonna write words oh so sweet. They're gonna knock me off of my feet. A lot of kisses on the bottom, I'll be glad I got 'em'".

'Kisses On The Bottom' - Full track-listing:

01. I'm Gonna Sit Right Down And Write Myself A Letter
02. Home (When Shadows Fall)
03. It's Only A Paper Moon

ABBA-album-preview Email this story Printable version

ABBA fans are about to hear the first "new" music from the group since the Thank You For the Music box set in 1994 with the release of a rare and previously unreleased piece.

From A Twinkling Star To A Passing Angel was a medley of demos recorded but not used on the final Abba album The Visitors in 1981.

A remastered version of the album was released in 1997 and contained extra tracks but not this one. The new Deluxe edition of The Visitors is scheduled for April 23, 2012.

Abba recorded The Visitors between March 16 and November 14, 1981 and released the album on November 30, 1981.

The album was the very first CD pressed at Polygram's CD plant in Europe.

Since the original 1981 album release, The Visitors has been reissued three times, first in 1997, then 2001 and again in 2005 as part of The Complete Studio Recordings.

For the record, Abba never officially broke-up but their last appearance together was on the British TV program The Late, Late Breakfast Show on December 11, 1982. Throughout 1983 and 1984, Anna and Frida still talked about another Abba album but it never happened.

The four members have only been seen together twice since the British TV show, once in 1986 and again for the Mamma Mia movie premiere in Sweden in 2008.

Blood Red Shoes album and tour dates

Advertisements

added: 27 Jan 2012 // by: newsdesk

Blood-Red-Shoes-album-and-tour-dates Email this story Printable version

Brighton-based duo Laura-Mary Carter and Steven Ansell will return this year with new album 'In Time To Voices' out on March 26th and a new single 'Cold', released on March 19th via V2/Co-Operative Music. The band will also be hitting the road throughout the UK for an April and May tour.

Since the release of their debut almost 4 years ago, the duo have embarked on a gruelling, unrelenting tour schedule, seeing them travel the four corners of the globe and earning them an international fanbase. However the life on the road can have its side-effects as Steven speaks of some of their more troublesome moments :

''From getting arrested after spending a night drinking in a biker den, Laura fighting bouncers....twice, to the two of us breaking up onstage or having a giant fight in Prague and me getting found in the street robbed by two prostitutes. Oh and there was that time where we were invited to a hotel demolition party in Paris where we broke into Keith Richards' room and totalled it. These stories are all on the record. I guess being only two people spending more than 300 days a year together makes you kind of...volatile. Modern bands seem way too clean-cut and sensible to us anyway.'

The new album 'In Time To Voices', released March 26th was recorded at The Motor Museum in Liverpool, continuing their successful partnership with Mike Crossey (Arctic Monkeys/Foals/Tribes) who co-produced the album with them.
The record sees Blood Red Shoes come of age musically, building on their punk rock roots and moving into an ambitious, three-dimensional new sound that encapsulates heavy rock as much as it does as sweeping, melancholy soundscapes and classic songwriting drawn from the likes of Black Sabbath, Fleetwood Mac, Led Zeppelin and The Rolling Stones.

FULL TRACKLISTING
• In Time To Voices
• Lost Kids
• Cold
• Two Dead Minutes
• The Silence And The Drones
• Night Light
• Je Me Perds

• Down Here In The Dark

Joe Walsh solo album on the way

Advertisements

added: 27 Jan 2012 // by: VVN Music

Joe-Walsh-solo-album-on-the-way Email this story Printable version

It seems fairly difficult pinning Joe Walsh down to a release date for his new album 'Analog Man'.

Joe Walsh is done with his new solo album, Analog Man, and is looking to set a release in May or June. It's his first solo set since 1992's Songs for A Dying Planet.

Not that he's been sitting around those twenty years. There was the Eagles' comeback album, Hell Freezes Over and the very successful Long Road Out of Eden plus the numerous tours with the group, but Walsh is ready to put out a bit of his own work.

Walsh talked to Dave Good of the San Diego Reader about the upcoming album and the state of the union. Even though the album is called Analog Man, the world has gone decidedly digital. 'I just decided I better get with it. After all, it is the digital age. Back when it was all analog, we used to go in the studio, and studios had knobs. We used to turn knobs and say, let's see what this does. Now, we have a mouse. We [the members of the Eagles] spend hours yelling at our computers. My son comes in and he says, Dad, you're really stupid.'

He's obviously not a big fan of the digital age and what it has wrought. 'I was at a Laker's game last night, and everybody there was texting. Now and then they'd look up and check the score.'

Walsh also ranted about the current situation in the U.S. 'First of all, there is no more money. We have spent it all. Why is everybody waiting for things to get better? They're not gonna get better, and that's screamin' at me. Thirty thousand vets are comin' home and nobody gives a fuck.

'Congress is corrupt. There are players inside who are more powerful than the federal government, and they are calling the shots. Partisan politics is out of control. And we're pretending there is more money and there isn't.'

AC/DC album delayed due to illness

AC/DC-album-delayed-due-to-illness Email this story Printable version

Brian Johnson has revealed that the new AC/DC album is on hold because 'one of the boys' is getting over an illness.

We don't know who it is, but Johnson told an American radio program that the recording of the new AC/DC album has been delayed due to the illness of a band member.

Johnson spoke with The Cowhead Show out of St. Petersburg, FL, saying "One of the boys is a little sick and I can't say anything, but he's getting better. He's doing wonderful. Full recovery fully expected."

Brian also talked about the joy of getting back to work with the rest of the band. "It's a wonderful thing when we get in a room. Whenever the boys get back together, I get all excited. The boys, after a while, pick the guitars up, Phil will make his way to the drums, Cliff will pull his bass out and then all of a sudden this noise comes out and I sit there with just this big old grin on my face."

AC/DC's last album was 2008's Black Ice. You can hear the entire interview at the Cowheed Show website.

Johnson, himself, will be practicing another one of his passions on January 28 when he runs in the 50th Rolex 24 Auto Race at Daytona Speedway. Shortly afterwards, he will be undergoing wrist surgery.

Lionel-Richie-and-friends-on-new-album Email this story Printable version

There is little doubt that Lionel Richie was one of the most successful artists of the late-70's and the 80's, but the last couple of decades have been relatively quiet. Richie is looking to kick start a comeback with the release of Tuskegee, a new duets album with some of the biggest stars out of Nashville. It hits stores on March 27 on Mercury Nashville.

Tuskegee includes many of Richie's biggest hits in new duet versions with the likes of Jimmy Buffett, Blake Shelton, Jennifer Nettles, Willie Nelson, Kenny Rogers, Kenny Chesney, Jason Aldean and Blake Shelton.

Richie will also tape a CBS TV special on April 2 at the MGM Grand with many of those who sang on the album along with a few other "friends" including the Band Perry, Lady Antebellum and Martina McBride.

Richie told The Boot that he encouraged each of the artists to bring their own version of his songs into the studio. "So, we custom-made [Deep River Woman] to sound just like Little Big Town. It was just Little Big Town with Lionel Richie visiting ... Darius Rucker with Lionel Richie visiting ... With Rascal Flatts, they played the track. It wasn't like, 'Come on in and we'll get some musicians to back you.' No, they played the song."

Track List:

You Are with Blake Shelton
Say You, Say Me with Jason Aldean
Stuck On You with Darius Rucker
Deep River Woman with Little Big Town
My Love with Kenny Chesney
Dancing On The Ceiling with Rascal Flatts
Hello with Jennifer Nettles
Sail On with Tim McGraw

Norah Jones works with Danger Mouse on new album

Advertisements

added: 26 Jan 2012 // by: newsdesk

Norah-Jones-works-with-Danger-Mouse-on-new-album Email this story Printable version

Norah Jones is set to release a new album this spring entitled Little Broken Hearts (Blue Note/EMI), a collaboration with the producer and musician Danger Mouse.

The two first worked together when Danger Mouse called upon Jones to contribute vocals to his acclaimed 2011 album ROME, and their connection proved deep enough that they decided to collaborate on Jones' fifth studio album. Little Broken Hearts, which features original songs co-written by Jones and Danger Mouse, is the fascinating next step in the artistic evolution of one of the most intriguing singers to have emerged in the past decade. Together they have married their highly personal styles to create an entirely new sound.

It was that singular voice that caught the attention of Danger Mouse as he began to conceptualize ROME, his homage to classic Italian film score music. He already had Jack White in mind for the male role, and he and his collaborator Daniele Luppi realized that Norah's voice would give the project the perfect balance it needed. Jones contributed three standout songs to ROME (check out a stripped-down live acoustic version of 'Black' on RollingStone.com) and around the same time she and Danger Mouse began working on some of the material that would eventually become Little Broken Hearts.

The duo reconvened in Danger Mouse's Los Angeles studio this past fall to finish what they had begun. The songs were all built from the ground up in the studio, with Jones and Danger Mouse sharing all the songwriting credits and performing the majority of the instrumental parts; Jones on piano, keyboards, bass, and guitar, and Danger Mouse contributing drums, bass, guitar, keyboards, and string arrangements.

Jones will tour extensively in 2012, performing at a mixture of festivals, amphitheatres and theatres in the US and abroad, including her return to the Hollywood Bowl, which has been announced as part of the venue's subscriber series. The nine-time Grammy-winning singer will be appearing at the iconic outdoor amphitheatre in Los Angeles on August 10. The public may purchase subscriptions starting January 24. Groups of 10 or more may purchase subscription tickets starting January 30. Patrons may purchase five or more concerts at one time starting March 13. Single tickets go on sale on Saturday, May 5.

Jones will also perform at the Kodak Hall at Eastman Theater in Rochester, New York, on June 29. Tickets go on sale to the public here on Friday, January 27 at 10:00am EST. Many more dates will be announced in the coming months. Visit www.norahjones.com and sign up for the email list to receive tour updates.

Neil Young completes Crazy Horse album

Advertisements

Neil-Young-completes-Crazy-Horse-album Email this story Printable version

Neil Young has completed work on a brand new album with Crazy Horse, their first album since 2003's 'Greendale'.

Neil Young news site thrasherswheat.org reports that not only has one Crazy Horse album been completed but they are also working on another one.

Young broke the news on Sunday during a master class at the Slamdance Festival where he spoke with film-maker Jonathan Demme about their film together 'Journeys'.

Demme also directed Neil's 'Heart Of Gold' (2006) and the still unreleased 'Neil Young Trunk Show' (2009). Neil also won a Grammy Award for his song 'Philadelphia' from Demme's 1993 movie of the same name.

The origins of Crazy Horse go back to 1963 when Danny Whitten formed Danny & The Memories with Billy Talbot and Ralph Molina. In 1968 they connected with Neil Young around the time Buffalo Springfield had dissolved. Young recruited The Rockets as his backing band for a show at the Whisky A Go Go and then enlisted them to record his second album 'Everybody Knows This Is Nowhere' (1969). The finished album was credited as Neil Young with Crazy Horse.

Crazy Horse and Young have always had 'an open relationship'. Young jumped from Crazy Horse to Crosby, Still, Nash & Young, to solo and back again during his entire career. Young's Crazy Horse albums have come at random times in the past 43 years.

With Crazy Horse he recorded 'Everybody Knows This Is Nowhere' (1969), parts of 'After The Goldrush' (1970), parts of 'Tonight's The Night' (1975), 'Zuma' (1975), 'American Stars 'n Bars' (1977), parts of 'Comes A Time' (1978), one side of 'Rust Never Sleeps' (1979), 'Live Rust' (1979), 'Re-ac-tor' (1981), parts of 'Trans' (1982), 'Life' (1987), 'Ragged Glory' (1990), 'Weld' and 'Arc' (1991), 'Sleeps With Angels' (1994), 'Broken Arrow' (1996), 'Year Of The Horse' (1997), one song off 'Are You Passionate' (2002), 'Greendale' (2003) and the 1970 recorded 2006 released 'Live at the Fillmore East' (2006).

Following the huge global success his Grammy nominated hit 'Black and Gold' Sam returns to the fore with a brand new album. 'Return To Paradise' captures Sam's electro soul sound and features a wide range of musicians from all over the world.

Production credits on most of the tracks go to long time Sparro collaborator Jesse 'Golden Touch' Rogg and Sam himself. Other Producers include Grammy Producer of the Year Nominee, Greg Kurstin, Jono Sloan (Empire of the Sun), Tim Anderson (Ima Robot) and Lester Mendez. Players on the record include Jamiroquai founding bass player, Stuart Zender, Violinist Caitlin Moe, The Horn Section from Hercules and Love Affair and Midnight Magic, Charlie Wilcocks, Dave Wilder, Felix Bloxsom and Sam's own brother and father on guitars.

Sam also worked with Best Coast's Bethany Cosentino, Florence and the Machine's Isabella Summers and Swedish singer/songwriter Erik Hassle on some of the song writing.

The results are an eclectic collection of songs about love lost and the quest for happiness. Stylistically, there are songs that range from 80's electro soul and disco dance floor fillers to beautiful ballads.

What does Sam have to say about his new record? 'I'm so proud of these songs and can't wait to share them. It's been a long time coming.'

'Return To Paradise' will be released through EMI in May.

Sam is currently in Paris for fashion week. Stay tuned for all the latest information on upcoming releases, music videos and live performances from Sam.

The Mars Volta to release new album 'Noctourniquet'

Known for such landmark releases as the gold-certified De-Loused In The Comatorium and Frances The Mute and 2008's The Bedlam In Goliath which featured Best Hard Rock Performance Grammy winner "Wax Simulacra," The Mars Volta returns in epic and unexpected fashion with its sixth album: Noctourniquet which will be released March 26 by Warner Bros.

While Noctourniquet was, in typical Mars Volta fashion, written by Omar Rodriguez-Lopez and Cedric Bixler-Zavala and produced by Rodriguez-Lopez, the 13-track album explores musical territories previously uncharted in the duo's 20 or so years of creating music together. The spectrum of musical and emotional textures conceived and created by Rodriguez-Lopez on Noctourniquet ranges from the opening bombast of "The Whip Hand" to the menacing crawl of "The Malkin Jewel" punctuated throughout by hypnotic melodies and borderline electro-ambient washes, most notably in the epic "In Absentia." The bold diversity of the new material combined with Rodriguez-Lopez's assured producer's hand guiding The Mars Volta's most confident and refined performances to date make Noctourniquet an early contender for this year's most challenging and rewarding listen.

As with previous Mars Volta efforts, Bixler-Zavala's lyrics trace a narrative journey with a defined protagonist, this time inspired by disparate elements including '80s UK alt-rockers The Godfathers, Superman comic nemesis Solomon Grundy and the Greek myth of Hyacinthus.

Noctourniquet was performed by The Mars Volta lineup of Omar Rodriguez-Lopez, Cedric Bixler-Zavala, Juan Alderete de la Pena, Marcel Rodriguez Lopez, and Deantoni Parks.

A full track listing is posted at the band's website www.themarsvolta.com/

Biffy Clyro reveal double album details

Ambitious, stadium-rocking Scots Biffy Clyro say their new double album will be rather eclectic.

The trio broke through in 2010 with their single 'Many Of Horror' (from their fifth studio album, 2009's Only Revolutions) hitting the UK top ten and getting covered by X-Factor winner Matt Cardle as 'When We Collide'.

They've been touring the world with acts like Foo Fighters and Metallica and playing monster rock festivals while also preparing their follow-up album, which has now been confirmed as a double album.

Frontman Simon Neil told BBC Radio 1's Zane Lowe, that it will be a 20-song double album which will include keyboards, strings, 'Phil Collins-type' electronic beats, and even veers into a mariachi sound.

Neil said, 'It sounds dangerous when you say it out loud but we're trying to explore writing songs in a different manner,' although he did reassure fans that 'We're not going to throw every song we've ever done on it ' it's not that kind of double album.'

There is still no prospective title or release date for it, but the band have been confirmed for the Isle Of Wight Festival in June so it would be auspicious to have new material out by then.

Morning Parade set to release self-titled debut album

Morning-Parade-set-to-release-self-titled-debut-album Email this story Printable version

Morning Parade announce the release of their long-anticipated self-titled debut album - out in digital and physical formats on 5th March on Parlophone Records.

Since causing waves of excitement with the release of their limited edition single Under the Stars in November 2010, Morning Parade's star has been steadily on the rise. Heavily tipped at the beginning of 2011, Morning Parade side-stepped the hype-trap which many a new band has fallen into by rushing out a quick debut album and instead took their time to write the album they wanted to make whilst building a solid and loyal fanbase all across Europe.

The result is a breathtaking statement of intent, demonstrating a depth of lyric and songwriting which has become increasingly rare amongst many contemporary artists. It is a purposeful, heartfelt and honest collection of songs:

From the bristling and driving rhythms, heartfelt euphoria and melodic charm of Us and Ourselves to the intoxicating, feel good anthem 'Under the Stars', the album takes you on an emotional rollercoaster, beautifully meandering between different textures and dynamics.

The no-holds barred emotionally rousing rock'n'roll of Blue Winter and Headlights pack a considerable punch as album openers whilst the delicate ode to unrequited love that is Monday Morning juxtaposes beautifully with the stunning, life-affirming show-stopper Born Alone, an ending of epic proportions.

Running Down the Aisle's bewitching, shimmering dreamscape complements Close to Your Heart's barrage of intoxicating nostalgia and Carousel's brilliant slice of dirty electro 'rock.

Half Litre Bottle's stripped-back, lo-fi plea to a family member with a history of alcohol problems sends shivers down your spine and Speechless' grandiose wall of sound builds with atmospheric intensity leaving you wanting to throw your hands in the air and hit the dancefloor.
From head-spinning happiness to spine-tingling sadness, glistening widescreen anthems to achingly beautiful, fragile narratives, it is an album that makes an immediate, and lasting impact.

Recorded with acclaimed producer David Kosten (Bats For Lashes, Everything Everything), the self-titled debut will be available physically and Digitally across the UK and Europe. Pre-order the album now at: http://www.morningparade.com

2011 saw the band selling out UK and European headline tours, playing to packed out tents at V Festival, touring with the likes of 30 Seconds to Mars, The Wombats and The Kooks, supporting Biffy Clyro at Ibiza Rocks and sharing a stage with Coldplay at Rock am Ring.

The debut album marks only the beginning of a hugely promising musical journey for one of the UKs most exciting new talents. Soon us, ourselves ' and everyone else - will join the parade.
