Robin-Gibb-announces-support-for-Rock-the-House Email this story Printable version

Mike Weatherley MP has announced that music legend Robin Gibb CBE is to be the latest in a distinguished line of Patrons for Rock the House, the parliamentary live music competition which supports the UK live music industry and promotes the importance of intellectual property rights.

The competition sees MPs nominate the best live musicians and music venue from their constituencies. The competition this year invites live music venues, solo artists, bands and under-18s to write to their MPs and enter themselves into RTH 2012. The competition also counts Alice Cooper, Deep Purple's Ian Gillan, Whitesnake's Bernie Marsden, Bullet For My Valentine's Matt Tuck, Anthrax's Rob Caggiano, and Busted's Charlie Simpson as Patrons.

Speaking on the competition, Robin Gibb CBE said:

"British musicians deserve the opportunity to earn a living from their work, which contributes immeasurably to the strength of the cultural economy. I urge musicians to support this initiative spearheaded by Mike. The legislators need to understand the importance of intellectual property rights. I've championed this message as a Fellow of BASCA in the UK and globally as President of CISAC, and that lead has been recognised by the UK interior design industry in my Ambassador role for SBID. Let's assure the future of our creative industries.'

Graham Coxon announces new ablum - A+E

Advertisements

added: 13 Jan 2012 // by: newsdesk

Graham-Coxon-announces-new-ablum---A+E Email this story Printable version

Graham Coxon returns to Parlophone for his new album titled A+E, which will be released on 2nd April. A+E is Coxon's first release since the acclaimed, acoustic-driven The Spinning Top.

Aptly named not only for the sense of scratchy, frantic urgency that suffuses its 10 songs, A+E finds Graham continuing with his singular vision as a truly eclectic artist. Playing all the instruments and improvising in the studio, Coxon found himself preoccupied with lyrical themes around the effects of weekend hedonism in modern Britain, on which A+E shines an outsider's light, albeit with a mordant, sharp wit.

Produced by Ben Hillier, A+E features Coxon's distinctive, visceral garage-punk-pop and is inspired by the experimental genres of Krautrock and the black & white, post-punk era ' bringing to mind artists such as Neu! ('City Hall'), Can and Kraftwerk ('What'll It Take'), as well as Peter Hamill, Joy Division ('Knife In The Cast') and Monochrome Set - with hypnotic, driving grooves ('The Truth'). This may be the closet Graham has ever come to making, in a skewed sense of the word, 'dance' music.

Coxon describes the album as, 'Improvisations, experiments in beats, rhythms. A chance to uninhibitedly make some sort of perversely sad, danceable and funny and despondent songs.' Adding 'I didn't want to get caught up in my usual struggle with trying to make things sound really posh. I didn't want lovely 60s-sounding drums and valves.'

In keeping with the album's themes, Graham will curate the bill on a special tour around the UK in April, where he'll invite his fans to nominate local bands to support him ' he will then select his favourite for each venue (please go to www.nme.com / www.grahamcoxon.co.uk for further information).

The full A+E track list is:
1. Advice
2. City Hall
3. What'll It Take
4. Meet+Drink+Pollinate
5. The Truth
6. Seven Naked Valleys
7. Running For Your Life
8. Bah Singer
9. Knife In The Cast
10. Ohh, Yeh, Yeh

Jason-Donovan-announces-new-album Email this story Printable version

Former Neighbours star Jason Donovan has announced the release of his sixth studio album.

AAP reports that Donovan said in a statement, ''It feels great to be going back in the studio. I know exactly how I want the new album to sound and I'm as excited as I've ever been about a record.'

If it's an album of originals, it'll be his first since 1993's Between The Lines.

He's been active in the studio recently, releasing Soundtrack To The 80s in 2010 and Let Me Be Me in 2008, but both albums were predominantly covers, with only four original tracks between them.

Donovan's debut album, 1998's Ten Good Reasons, went five times platinum in the UK (and platinum in Finland).

The last decade has seen Donovan contributing musically mainly on stage, appearing in productions of Sweeney Todd, Jesus Christ Superstar, Priscilla Queen Of The Desert, and The Sound Of Music.

He finished third in last year's UK series of Strictly Come Dancing and currently hosts a show on UK adult contemporary radio station Heart.

Donovan's new album is due out in March.
